Charles C. Conrad is a trial attorney whose practice includes commercial, oil and gas, admiralty/maritime, construction, real estate, and personal injury litigation. He has represented businesses and individuals in both commercial and personal injury matters at both trial and appellate levels. While Mr. Conrad’s primary practice is litigation, he routinely assists clients with day-to-day business affairs as corporate counsel for them.
Mr. Conrad approaches all aspects of the litigation process with an enormous amount of intensity, especially when it comes to trial, oral arguments, motions, and negotiations. As a result, he has enjoyed notable success in his trial practice. In August of 2007, Mr. Conrad was awarded a CV Peer Review Rating by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell after an extensive and confidential peer review by members of the Texas Bar and judiciary. The CV Peer Review Rating is the highest rating a lawyer can achieve with Mr. Conrad’s experience. Mr. Conrad has now joined a select group of lawyers who have been recognized for their legal expertise and professional stature.
Mr. Conrad has extensive trial experience. His representative matters include: the defense of shipyard of a damages claim in excess of $45 million arising out of a fire to a Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit, and on the first day of trial, Mr. Conrad’s client was granted summary judgment; the defense an environmental company in a multi-million dollar pipeline explosion case in East Texas and after a two-week jury trial, Mr. Conrad’s client received a unanimous 100% defense verdict; a bench trial where Mr. Conrad represented the prosecution of property damage claim following an vessel-platform allision following Hurricane Rita; a jury trial involving the defense of a prime construction contractor in a multi-million dollar breach of contract case; the defense a multi-million dollar wrongful death and products liability claim against a products manufacturer; the defense of oil and gas company as the result of vessel-platform allision following Hurricane Katrina resulting in property damage and personal injuries; the prosecution of numerous claims arising out of oil and gas contracts; prosecution of a tenant’s inverse condemnation claim; and, the successful defense of numerous claims under the Jones Act and the Longshore Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.
Mr. Conrad has also enjoyed great success at the appellate level. Mr. Conrad has twice successfully defended appeals of orders granting his clients summary judgment. Hickman v. PKD, Inc., 2007 WL 2238399 (Tex.App.-Houston [14th Dist.] 2007); and Nichols v. Tanglewood Manor Apartments, 2006 WL 278282 (Tex.App.-Hous. (14th Dist.), February 07, 2006).
Mr. Conrad has authored several publications and has presented numerous seminars while at Brown Sims, P.C. Mr. Conrad also enjoys supporting his alma mater by being a volunteer judge of mock trial and moot court competitions at South Texas College of Law. He is also an alumnus of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and works with Bo's Buddies Charity, a non-profit organization that offers grief support services to children and their families who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Conrad earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Finance in 2000 and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 2003. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas; Texas Young Lawyers Association; American Bar Association, Litigation and Tort & Insurance Sections; Texas Trial Lawyers Association (allied member), Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Houston Bar Association.
