This
story is excerpted from Houston: Where All
Things Are Possible (Community Media Corp.
and Legacy Publishing, 2003).

Brown Sims’ involvement in Houston extends beyond
providing legal services. The Firm is committed to enhancing
the quality of legal education with its support of the
law school in Houston as well as by its involvement with
foundations such as the Judge John R. Brown Scholarship
Foundation.
The Firm has assisted industry groups
such as the Greater Houston Partnership and International
Association of Drilling Contractors, and has supported
numerous local, state and federal bar associations in
such areas as admissions, grievances and community organizations.
The Firm’s contribution to Houston is not limited
to work within the bar associations, but includes handling
of pro bono matters and support of organizations as diverse
as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Houston International
Seafarers’ Center, the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society and the American Cancer Society.
The dedication that Brown Sims has
shown to its clients and the community is also reflected
in the Firm’s devotion to the advancement of the
law. While several of the Firm’s former attorneys
have distinguished themselves as judges and in the political
arena, other attorneys have published extensively on important
legal issues, prepared amicus curiae briefs in significant
cases, and given lectures to groups across the country.
These efforts have borne fruit with
changes in the law from local courts to the United States
Supreme Court. The commitment to client needs, legal development
and community service is fundamental to the interests
and goals of the attorneys at Brown Sims.
