Andrei W. Defino joined Brown Sims as a law clerk during law school. He became an associate attorney in the firm’s Houston office upon his graduation and licensure in 2024. Mr. Defino’s practice focuses primarily on the defense of claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act (LHWCA) and the Defense Base Act (DBA).

Mr. Defino earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a Concentration in Writing from Andrews University in 2018. There, he served as an Editor-in-Chief for the Student Association’s newspaper and successfully defended and published his undergraduate research thesis through the Honors Program.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Mr. Defino worked as a Grant Coordinator for Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, where he gained invaluable experience in public interest work and engaging with the district-area community and local and federal officials.

As a student at South Texas College of Law Houston, Mr. Defino was the President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, an Article and Note Editor for CURRENTS: Journal of International Economic Law, an associate and managing editor for the Corporate Counsel Review, a student representative in the Asian American Bar Association of Houston Mentorship Committee, and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board. During this time, his background in public service, policy, and research also led to internships within the nonprofit and plaintiff-side legal sectors.
