Michael Mejia is an associate in the Miami office of Brown Sims focusing primarily on defense of claims brought under the Defense Base Act.
Mr. Mejia graduated cum laude from Florida International University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a Certificate in National Security Studies. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University’s College of Law with a certificate in Intellectual Property Law. During this time, he was a competitor on the St. Thomas Law Moot Court team, managing editor of the St. Thomas Journal of Complex Litigation, and a member of the St. Thomas University Intellectual Property and Cyber Law Society.
Prior to joining Brown Sims, Mr. Mejia worked for a national insurance defense civil litigation firm dealing primarily in third-party insurance defense claims including medical malpractice and premises liability cases. He also has a background working in local, state, and federal government on the policy-making side and defense industries as both a registered lobbyist for Broward County and an intelligence analyst for the Department of Defense. He is an active non-commissioned officer in the Florida Army National Guard.
During his free time, Michael enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, reading and writing about domestic and international politics, learning about new and emerging technologies, and spending time with family.
