The case centered on a yacht grounding off the Dominican Republic’s northern coast, near Puerto Plata, that led to a prospective $9.7 million repair cost award along with exposure for fees and costs. Our appellate team showed that the policy capped recovery at the reasonable value of the damage rather than actual expenses incurred by the insured and that the trial court’s damages ruling went too far.
