Dera C. Barlow is a native Texan, born and raised in Southeast Texas. Ms. Barlow is an associate with the firm whose practice focuses on complex civil litigation involving personal injury defense, premises liability, and products liability. Prior to joining Brown Sims, Ms. Barlow represented clients in a wide range of civil matters, including personal injury/wrongful death, oil and gas, and mass tort litigation.
Ms. Barlow received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2015 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and earned a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Cardozo Law’s top-ranking dispute resolution program.
While in law school, Ms. Barlow was a competitor and coach for Cardozo’s Law’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Competition Team, which competed in negotiation, arbitration, and mediation competitions all over the country and internationally. In recognition for her academic and extracurricular achievements, Ms. Barlow was awarded the Jacob Burns Medal for Outstanding Contribution to the Law School. In addition, Ms. Barlow worked at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the New York City Law Department.
Ms. Barlow graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Philosophy, and a minor in Italian.
